• How can our community work better together?
  • How can we improve our relationship with the natural world?
  • How can our community thrive in this place?

Most importantly, what should we do to make things better?

Planners work with others to improve the quality of human life while protecting the quality of natural environment.  Professional planners are leaders in this process, moving between many roles, working with people and promoting the public interest.

Our planning programs at UNBC respond to the needs and interests of communities in Northern British Columbia and in First Nations, rural and community regions and natural resource and landscape planning across Canada.

Today’s issues. Your future.

Do you dream of sustainable, resilient and supportive communities? Would you like to be working with others to create the plans and action steps to move our communities toward sustainability, carbon neutrality and social equity? Learn the practice of planning with us at UNBC.

Our planning program is accredited as a school of professional planning by the Canadian Institute of Planners and the Planning Institute of British Columbia. This means that our students can be members of and interact with professional planners from the first day they arrive at UNBC. Our courses emphasize learning in the context of practice, and our teaching faculty are involved with the professional of planning.

Our graduates have been very successful in finding meaningful work soon after graduating. They have secured employment in the public, private and non-profit sectors throughout North American, Asia and Europe.
