Chemistry at the University of Toronto Scarborough

Laboratories are the backbone of our chemistry program, and you’ll get hands-on with key instruments while getting to know your instructors. We cap our labs at 20 students per instructor, and give you individual attention and close interaction as you develop strong, practical skills with the technologies and tools used in industries today. Both our specialist and major have co-op options, which add 12 total months of paid work experience to your studies. You can also customize how you get your experience, through either three four-month work terms, a four-month and eight-month term, or a full-year term.

Many of our engaging, highly motivated instructors are award-winners and influential researchers, and our students collaborate with them on groundbreaking projects both in labs and in the field.

Our major gives you a solid foundation in all the sub-disciplines of chemistry, along with strong theoretical knowledge and extensive experience in laboratories — and the flexibility to pursue another major. Our specialist program is more intensive, offering a deep theoretical and practical learning experience in all aspects of modern chemistry. You'll build on fundamentals in a range of disciplines, including biology, chemistry, physics, and math, then apply your knowledge to the sub-disciplines of chemistry. You'll then create new insights into science with a directed research project in your fourth year.

This program has received accreditation by the Chemical Institute of Canada, in recognition of the extensive number of lab courses and numerous experiential learning opportunities available to our students.
