Overview

Do you imagine being a professional actor and entrepreneur in today’s ever-changing film, TV and digital media sector?

As an Actor, you are a highly versatile and authentic storyteller who understands the importance of a meaningful connection with your audience and the value of creating your own opportunities for success in the entertainment industry.

Toronto – sometimes called Hollywood North – and the surrounding region known as “The Golden Horseshoe” ranks third in film and digital media production in North America and ranks second as an exporter of digital streaming and cable tv programming in North America.

Our focus continues to be superior actor training with courses in voice, speech, movement, scene study and auditioning for film and television. We are also one of the few Canadian post-secondary institutions that offer direct instruction in The Meisner Technique, one of the foremost acting techniques taught today. In light of the changing nature of the industry and the rise of more entrepreneurial self-created web content, you will also study film editing, screenwriting, stunt training, voiceover acting, self-marketing and acting with technology (eg. Green Screen) bringing a dual focus to the program; the actor and entrepreneur.

Our instructors are working industry professionals in the Toronto region and across Canada.

Tuition

Becoming a graduate of the Acting for Film and Television program at Niagara College has changed my life. Not even a month after our convocation I was on a flight to Vancouver to work on a film. From there I moved back and had my first audition in Toronto, landed my very first series, became a full member of ACTRA and signed with an Agent. Without this program I would never have had the courage or knowledge to do any of these things. The program implements every single aspect of film and TV you’d ever need to know to feel comfortable and prepared going into the acting world.

Welcome to the Acting for Film and Digital Media program, where we’re not just shaping actors but crafting actor entrepreneurs, storytellers and collaborators. Watch our NEW video below to learn about what sets our program apart.

We teach the Meisner Technique.

The Meisner Technique is one of the most popular forms of current acting training originating from the work of Stanislavski. We are one of the only colleges in Canada to have a designated course curriculum in Meisner. Using our increased focus on another and enabling our observation skills on behavior, we begin to allow our own impulses to show up fully and freely to fulfill the actors’ job of communicating story through our own humanity.

A few Meisner trained actors- Hillary Swank, Hank Azaria, James Gandolfini, Connie Britton, Kim Basinger, Jeff Bridges, Jeff Goldblum, Robert Duval, Allison Janney, Diane Keaton, Sigourney Weaver, Mary Steenburgen, Dylan McDermott, Eli Wallach, James Caan, Christopher Lloyd.
