Classical Studies at the University of Toronto Scarborough

Dive into the intricacies of Ancient Greece and Rome while developing the core skills needed to excel in any study or career path (and get particularly excellent preparation for law school). Our courses look beyond the Greeks and Romans themselves to investigate the peoples and cultures they became intertwined with; you’ll explore the complex classical world and uncover how its impacts persist to this day. In some courses, you’ll link your studies to history and geography, in others, you’ll use digital technologies to focus on ancient science and architecture. Our wide range of courses lets you customize your studies around your interests and goals — popular focuses include Greek mythology and the Latin and Greek roots of English.

Our program is committed to being accessible and practical; in most cases, the ancient written texts you’ll study are translated, and you’ll hone skills in gathering, synthesizing and analyzing data, understanding and comparing cultures, problem-solving, effective writing and much more. You’ll learn from renowned experts, have access to cutting-edge resources and become part of a passionate intellectual community.
