Overview

Upcoming Intake: Fall 2024: Commerce Court – North Bay

This program will prepare you for a rewarding and challenging career working with youth and adults in crisis. You will gain a working knowledge of the law, criminology, victimology and human behaviour. Benefit from practical workshops, industry tours and an integrated field placement component. Applied workshops include conflict resolution, mental health first aid, hostage taking and negotiating. This comprehensive training will give you the skills you need to work in the fields of youth justice, restorative justice and adult corrections.

Work-Integrated Learning (also called Placement, Field Placement, Practicum, Clinical Placement, etc.) provides students with rich and meaningful experiences wherein they have the opportunity to apply and extend the learning they gain from the classroom in real-word contexts.   • Running Shoes, for fitness class (2nd year) - apx. $50.00
  • Conflict Resolution Certification (2nd year) - apx. $18.00
  • Emergency Response Baton (2nd year) - apx. $10.00
  • Criminal Background Check (2nd year) - apx. $25.00
  • Use of Force Certification (2nd year) - apx. $250.00 (optional)

Students have the opportunity to obtain further certifications through the program including Standard First Aid and CPR, Mental Health First Aid, Conflict Prevention and Intervention, Conflict Resolution Simulation Lab, Suicide Awareness and Intervention Workshop and Use of Force Certification (some at an extra cost).

Learning outcomes represent culminating demonstrations of learning and achievement. In addition, learning outcomes are interrelated and cannot be viewed in isolation of one another. As such, they should be viewed as a comprehensive whole. They describe performances that demonstrate that significant integrated learning by graduates of the program has been achieved.
