Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Toronto Scarborough

Explore astronomy, one of the oldest sciences in the world, in a department making ground-breaking discoveries in how we understand the universe. Here, studying astronomy means working to understand the vast environment where humans developed, from our solar system to the furthest observable entities of space.

You’ll gain a strong background in physics, algebra and calculus, and apply your skills to study the universe and the galactic phenomena in astronomy courses. You’ll learn from a dynamic faculty that specializes in studying the differences between our solar system and other planetary systems, along with the ways general relativity can be used to understand black hole evolution and the thermal evolution of solid planets (including Earth). Discover the universe’s origins, its physical and chemical properties, and how matter and energy evolved within it.
