Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) - Greek Language and Culture


Overview

This enriching program will prepare you to become a specialist educator of English as a Second Language (ESL) and Greek Language and Culture. TESL preparation is for both the elementary level (including regular and intensive ESL) and the secondary level (including regular ESL and EESL – Enriched English as a Second Language).

The program consists of both academic and student-teaching field experience components. The academic coursework within the program will provide you with opportunities to develop in-depth understandings of Greek language and culture, as well as examining language learning from linguistic, social, cultural, and psychological perspectives. You will graduate with both the theoretical and practical experience necessary to thrive in your future career.


Careers

Students who complete this undergraduate degree are qualified to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) in elementary and secondary schools as well as Greek language and culture in Hellenic schools. ESL teachers are in demand in Quebec, across Canada, and internationally. You can work in public and private Hellenic schools, community organizations, recreation centres, educational technology start-ups, and government.

Student experience

Students in this program are supported by course instructors, advisors, and administrators in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE) as well as the Office of Internships and Student Affairs (ISA). In addition to being a part of a department that fosters a sense of community and mentorship, students also can benefit from the resources and events organized by the Education Undergraduate Student Society (EdUS).
