University of GuelphAttending university is about so much more than going to your classes and writing exams. Regardless of what school you end up attending, you’re going to spend a lot time outside of the classroom, and it’s the experiences you’ll enjoy during this time that will ultimately allow you to thrive!

Becoming and staying active in your new community, be it through athletics, cultural, hobby or interest groups, or through volunteer opportunities will help ensure that you maintain a balance between your academic pursuits and the things that motivate you and keep you happy.

Many colleges and universities have dedicated student life staff and programming to ensure that students get the most out of their post-secondary experience. Student Life at the University of Guelph offers five programs under its umbrella: the Centre for New Students, the Office of Intercultural Affairs, Community Engagement & Global Citizenship, Off Campus Living, and the Aboriginal Resource Centre. Each of these five departments offers programming and services for all University of Guelph students.

There are lots of other ways to become involved in your campus community too, and Guelph’s variety of intermural sports and student-run clubs ensure that, regardless of your interests – from beekeeping to hip-hop dance to inter-tube water polo – there really is something for everyone! With more than 150 clubs and organizations, including cultural and religious clubs, the possibilities are endless!

Be sure to keep an eye out both before and after you arrive at your new school for services and groups to learn about and take part in.
