September 17, 2003 - Toronto’s RCC College of Technology, a leading Canadian educator in electronics and computer engineering technology, initiated a strategic expansion today with the signing of a letter of intent to acquire the physical assets, curricula and other intellectual property of DeVry Inc.’s Toronto-based technical college operations. Subject to entering into a definitive agreement, RCC will be licensed to deliver DeVry’s current curricula under the RCC College of Technology brand. “Such an agreement reflects RCC’s strategic vision to improve and expand the innovative, applications-oriented, and nationally recognized programs we offer Canadian students in electronics and computer engineering,” says Hartley Nichol, president of RCC College of Technology. “The opportunity to draw on DeVry’s experience in designing and teaching degree programs would pave the way for the evolution of RCC into a degree-granting educational institute.”

RCC College of Technology currently offers fully accredited programs in electronics and computer engineering technology through the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board (CTAB) and the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT). RCC will file an application with Ontario’s Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities for approval to offer two degree programs with an applied focus, one in Electronics Engineering Technology and a second in Computer Information Systems.

RCC College of Technology and DeVry Inc. assured students enrolled at DeVry that courses leading to a DeVry diploma will continue to be delivered at the Toronto campus by the current faculty and staff. Plans call for the DeVry courses to be taught until June 2005. President Nichol reports that starting in July 2005 all classes will be held at the expanded Steeles Avenue RCC College of Technology campus. He also stated that “the programs now offered at RCC’s Steeles Avenue facility will continue and we do not anticipate any faculty or staff changes there.” Nichol pointed out that the existing RCC faculty would in fact be augmented by the addition of members of the DeVry teaching staff. “It is most exciting to think about the combined credentials of the two faculties which, we believe, will be second to none of any engineering and electronics technology college in Canada, and quite possibly in North America.”

RCC’s expansion and potential evolution into a degree-granting institute will offer the province’s students another viable educational option at this critical time in Ontario when students, parents and teaching staffs are facing the challenges of the double cohort situation.

DeVry Inc. is selling its Mississauga campus assets to meet its goal of phasing out its operations in Ontario. “RCC College of Technology has a 75 year record of educational accomplishments and is a major player in Canada’s technology education sector,” commented Ronald L. Taylor, president and co-chief executive officer of DeVry Inc.of Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois. “This arrangement with RCC would enable DeVry to meet its strategic and business objectives while looking after the educational needs of our current students.”

It is anticipated that the deal between RCC College of Technology and DeVry will close in November.

RCC College of Technology with close to 40,000 graduates in its 75-year history produces the highest number of technology graduates of any college in Ontario. It is highly respected both in the technology sector and the academic community for the innovative career education it provides 500 computer and electronic technology students each year through an intense and demanding curriculum. RCC College of Technology currently offers 18-month courses equivalent to the three-year, six-semester technology programs offered at community colleges In Ontario.
