Get Canadian Work Experience at Georgian College

Most international students would like to work in Canada after they complete their studies at a Canadian institution. However, one of the major barriers for a successful job search is that employers perceive international students have a "lack of Canadian work experience". Being the largest Co-op College in Canada, the majority of Georgian’s programs include Co-ops, Internships, or Field Placements as integral part of student learning. International students are given the opportunity to gain this valuable experience through work terms staggered throughout their academic studies at Georgian College. For example, at the end of a 3-year diploma program, a student can graduate with 3 work terms which equates to one full year of relevant Canadian work experience. The work experience often gives Georgian graduates the edge to compete for jobs in their chosen career field.

Our graduate employment rate during 2011/2012 is 86.8%, significantly higher than the provincial average. We provide assistance in obtaining a graduate work permit, finding graduate work, and in some cases, relocation.

Upon arrival to Canada, international students will encounter a different way of living, learning, working and being. With the help of the International Centre at Georgian, our students are given many opportunities not only to improve their resume, cover letter and job interview skills, but also more culturally fluent in Canadian working place and society in general.

In 2011, Georgian College was ranked Number 1 in international student satisfaction within the 238 institutions worldwide that were surveyed. We understand the challenges that students moving to Canada face, and take pride in providing the best support services to help students to deal with these challenges in their transition to a new life in Canada.
