This two-year intensive program prepares students with the essential knowledge and technical skills required to perform electrocardiograms, exercise tolerance tests and ambulatory monitoring in the role of a cardiovascular technologist. The program emphasizes a hands-on approach through in-class clinical simulation and a clinical practicum. Areas of focus include performing various non-invasive cardiac testing such as electrocardiography, stress testing, ambulatory monitoring and pacemaker follow-up. Students develop critical thinking skills by integrating knowledge of cardiac anatomy, pharmacology and various pathophysiology to provide accurate diagnostic information to members of the health-care team.

To be eligible for admission, you must possess the following:

• Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent including these required courses:
• Grade 12 English (ENG4C or ENG4U or equivalent)
• Grade 12 Mathematics (MAP4C, MCT4C, MDM4U, MCB4U, MGA4U, MCV4U or MHF4U or equivalent)
• Grade 11 or Grade 12 Biology (SBI3C, SBI3U or SBI4U or equivalent)
• Grade 11 or Grade 12 Chemistry (SCH3U, SCH4C or SCH4U or equivalent)
• Grade 11 or Grade 12 Physics (SPH3U, SPH4C, SPH4U)

• Canadian Academic English Language Assessment or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based)

Work-Integrated Learning Requirements

• As part of your placement experience, you may be required to complete health, safety, and security clearances. Requirements vary by program and may include some or all of the following: immunizations and laboratory testing, TB screening, a police record check, as well as current First Aid and CPR certification. 
• Students should be prepared to begin completing requirements promptly once details are provided, as some may take time to arrange and must meet specified timelines. All required documentation must remain valid for the duration of the placement. 

• Detailed information about specific requirements, timelines, and instructions will be provided after enrollment confirmation through the program’s student SharePoint site.

This career requires a high level of physical and mental readiness, as technologists often spend extended periods on their feet, assist patients with varying levels of mobility, and must be prepared to respond quickly in urgent situations. Strong attention to detail and technical accuracy are essential for operating specialized equipment and monitoring variable patient conditions. Equally important are the interpersonal and emotional skills needed to support patients during stressful procedures and to communicate effectively within fast-paced and interprofessional healthcare teams.
