The Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography Ontario Graduate Certificate program is designed to equip healthcare professionals with specialized expertise in cardiac ultrasound imaging. Cardiac sonographers play a vital role in diagnosing heart conditions by operating advanced imaging technology and collaborating closely with physicians. 

This program blends theoretical learning with hands-on clinical training. Students gain in-depth knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and sonography protocols, ensuring they perform procedures within a clearly defined scope of practice. The curriculum is developed in alignment with current healthcare industry needs and integrates the latest advancements in medical technology and cardiovascular treatment. 

To be eligible for admission, you must possess the following:

• An advanced diploma, diploma, or equivalent in a registered health profession program. Examples of registered health profession diploma or advanced diploma programs include but are not limited to Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Medical Radiation Technology, Respiratory Therapist, Registered Practical Nursing, Cardiovascular Technology, Registered Massage Therapy, Occupational Therapy Assistant and Physiotherapy Assistant.

OR 

• A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a medical or health-related discipline with a minimum of two courses (or equivalent) in Human/Gross Anatomy and Physiology plus one course in Human Pathology and three additional human health related courses (examples include: patient care, medical research, medical ethics, etc.). Examples of medical or health-related degrees include but are not limited to BSc Kinesiology, BA Kinesiology, BSc Nursing, Bachelor of Medical Radiation Technology, Bachelor of Applied Health Sciences.

• Canadian Academic English Language Assessment or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based)

Placement Requirements

While these requirements are not mandatory for admission, they must be completed before participating in specific program components, such as work-integrated learning. 

Students will not be permitted to attend placements until all required documentation and certifications are submitted and verified. Requirements may change based on legislation updates or placement site policies. Students will be notified of any changes in advance. 

To ensure safety and compliance with industry standards, students must complete the following: 

• Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check 
• CPR Certification – Level HCP/BLS 
• Standard First Aid Certification 
• Respiratory Mask Fit Certificate 
• Immunization Records and Lab Tests, including:  
• Tetanus / Diphtheria / Pertussis (Tdap) 
• Measles / Mumps / Rubella (MMR) 
• Varicella (Chickenpox) 
• nfluenza (Flu) 
• COVID-19 Vaccine 
• Hepatitis B (HB) 
• Tuberculosis (TB) Testing – May include a chest X-ray 
• Completion of E-learning Modules
