Economic development remains a critical issue for more than three-quarters of the world’s population who reside in countries classified as “low income” or “middle income.” The causes and consequences of economic development remain contested issues. This academic program considers the changing global, regional and national contexts for economic development; the policy lessons that can be learned from comparative studies; and the tools required to enable development economists to contribute to the development process.

• Unofficial copies of transcripts for all post-secondary institutions attended (unofficial transcripts). Transcripts should be submitted in the original language they were produced in, accompanied by English translations (if required). • In general, applicants to a Master’s degree program must hold a four-year baccalaureate degree (or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
• Domestic applicants are normally required to have a minimum overall average of 3.00 (B) for third- and fourth-year courses.
• We accept applicants from a wide variety of backgrounds and other degrees may be considered. However, applicants should demonstrate a background (coursework) in Macro and Micro Economics at an introductory level. Applicants who have not completed a Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Econometrics, or Mathematical Economics course(s) equivalent to the intermediate level at UNBC will be required to complete theses courses as part of their graduate degree if admitted. Because admission to this program is highly competitive, strong applications are those that include the necessary academic preparation for success in the degree.
