Indigenous Studies explores solutions to contemporary issues faced by diverse Indigenous Peoples, Canadians and other peoples around the world. Drawing on Indigenous knowledge, perspectives, language, experiences, governments, cultures and economies, you'll critically examine topics such as treaties, settler-colonialism, decolonization, resurgence, revitalization, reconciliation, self-determination, sustainability, stewardship, Métis identities, Indigenous-Canadian relations, Indigenous-Black relations and the ongoing impacts of colonialism. Through courses in Indigenous ecological knowledge, languages, literatures, film, music, politics, education and contemporary issues, you'll learn how Indigenous ways of knowing are helping to address political, economic, social, cultural and environmental challenges. Located in Aterónto, the Greater Toronto Area, where Indigenous and settler communities reside, meet, trade and exchange ideas, York offers students a dynamic location to experience learning that connects Indigenous knowledge with action in solving local, regional, global and international challenges.

• And five additional 4U or M courses

To gain admission to this program, your academic average should be in the low-to-mid 70s.
