The Certificate of Proficiency in Spanish Language, offered by the Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics, accredits candidates who have advanced knowledge of the structures of Spanish allowing them to communicate in most formal and informal everyday conversations. Students who qualify for the Certificate of Proficiency in Spanish Language demonstrate oral fluency and can also manage most advanced points of grammar and style in writing and reading the target language.

• For Canadian High School Students or those who have never attended a college or university, please refer to the Future Students Admission Requirements. The Future Students Section includes information for International High School Students, College/University Student, Mature Students, Indigenous Students, Visiting Students and Student returning to York to complete my degree.

Current Students

• York University students may earn a Certificate of Proficiency in Spanish Language concurrent with fulfilment of the requirements for a bachelor's degree. This certificate is also open to students who already hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and who are admissible according to Faculty and University policies. This certificate is not, however, open to students who are pursuing or who already hold a degree in Spanish within the Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics in the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies or within the Department of Hispanic Studies/Études Hispaniques at the Glendon Campus.
• To apply for the certificate, students must have successfully completed at least 18 credits in Spanish offered by the Spanish program in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics with a minimum grade of B+ in the last upper level course taken.
