Description:HRM at the PhD level aims to prepare students for independent scholarly work that results in the creation of new knowledge relevant to enhancing the health of Canadians. Graduates possess advanced methodological skills that enable them to engage in a broad range of research investigations relevant to applied clinical and/or health systems issues. Program objectives are achieved through a combination of formal course work, a comprehensive examination, close interaction and collaboration with faculty members in different research environments, and independent research leading to a thesis. In their dissertation work, students undertake scholarly inquiry with particular emphasis on methodologic issues.

Prerequisites:*These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
    The admission requirement into the Program is a Master's degree with an academic standing equivalent to at least a McMaster B+ in previous academic work. All applicants are expected to have advanced preparation in the form of a Master's degree or equivalent, or the combination of a course-based Master's degree and strong supporting evidence of their potential as independent investigators. Examples of strong supporting evidence include, but are not limited to: published or unpublished examples of scholarly work, substantive involvement in research, and feference letters that speak explicitly to this issue.
    Test Scores:
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Paper Based) [min. 580] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Computer Based) [min. 237] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 92] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.5]
    Application Notes : Applicants whose native language is not English will be required to submit an official copy of their TOEFL score, or other evidence of competency in English is required. A minimum TOEFL (iBT) score of 92 (580 on the paper-based TOEFL test or 237 on the computer-based TOEFL test) is needed for the Faculty of Health Sciences. Students taking the IELTS are required to achieve a minimum score of 6.5 with a minimum score of 5.5 in each category. Equivalent scores on other recognized tests may also be considered. Each of these scores are only valid for 2 years. Students who have completed an Academic ESL program through Canadian academic institutions may petition to have this considered in lieu of TOEFL. Applicants may be exempted from this requirement if they have completed a university degree at which English is the language of instruction.
