Description:This unique interdisciplinary program features a double specialization in French Literature and French Linguistics and offers courses in French only on both campuses of York University. You will have the opportunity to research and study French literature and the language of France, French Canada and French communities across the world (for instance Professor Szmidt’s research on North African literature and Professor R. Mougeon’s research on Canadian French and immersion French).

All students must have a specialized Baccalaureate, with a minimum general average of B. Their knowledge of oral and written French must be almost native and they must also be proficient in English. Students who hold a Baccalaureate specializing in French and whose course of study corresponds essentially to the courses offered in the Departments of French Studies in Canada can be admitted directly into the program.

Applicants with a Bachelor's degree in a field other than French must take a number of courses as part of a preparatory program. A minimum average of B is required for admission to the master's program.
