Description:The Department of History and Classical Studies offers a wide variety of exciting courses on diverse cultures and societies around the world from antiquity to contemporary times, as well as covering thematic subjects such as historical theory and methodology, history and sexuality, imperialism and colonialism, histories of science, environmental history, and the history of thought and ideas.

Students of history learn how to sift evidence, to analyze arguments and to evaluate widely differing interpretations. They develop and hone their writing skills, powers of critical thought and their ability to present and defend their ideas verbally and on paper—all in high demand in a wide range of professions and careers. Whether graduates move into the historical profession as a teacher or academic or move into other spheres, their historical skills will always prove invaluable.

Students must maintain a 3.30 grade point average in their program courses and must have no less than a "B" in any program course. In addition, and in accordance with Faculty of Arts rules, students must maintain an overall CGPA of 3.00.

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Paper Based) [min. 577] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.5] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 90]
