Description:Students will learn comprehensive strategies for formulating client problems and choosing treatment interventions, increase their contacts with other professionals and improve their skills in identifying problems and generating solutions in their personal work settings. The program is designed for professionals who are working in the health services field. Courses are developed for adult learners and have an interprofessional small group approach. The emphasis of the program is not on new credentials or accreditation but on enhanced knowledge and skills. Students from a variety of professional backgrounds, agencies, and hospitals study in the Program, attending classes on a part-time basis while they continue in their usual employment.

Admission Requirements

Prerequisites:*These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
    Applicants are rated on their previous academic performance (must have completed an Honours Bachelor’s degree with at least a B+ average in the final year in all courses in the discipline in which the applicant proposes graduate work), evidence of their ability to do graduate work, work experience in the field of study they wish to pursue, and letters of reference. Applicants must also be occupying positions, either full-time or part-time, in counselling, psychology, psychiatry, nursing, social services, counselling-related medical and para-medical services, and/or other related clinical health services fields.
    Test Scores:
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 92] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Computer Based) [min. 237] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Paper Based) [min. 580] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.5]
    Application Notes : Applicants whose native language is not English will be required to submit an official copy of their TOEFL score, or other evidence of competency in English is required. A minimum TOEFL (iBT) score of 92 (580 on the paper-based TOEFL test or 237 on the computer-based TOEFL test) is needed for the Faculty of Health Sciences. Students taking the IELTS are required to achieve a minimum score of 6.5 with a minimum score of 5.5 in each category. Equivalent scores on other recognized tests may also be considered. Each of these scores are only valid for 2 years. Students who have completed an Academic ESL program through Canadian academic institutions may petition to have this considered in lieu of TOEFL. Applicants may be exempted from this requirement if they have completed a university degree at which English is the language of instruction.
