Description:The UFV Paralegal diploma program delivers employment-focused education and professional training to prepare you to work immediately as an entry-level paralegal in the province of BC, and to acquire membership with the B.C. Paralegal Association. ​

In British Columbia, paralegals have excellent employment prospects. Paralegals can work in law firms, government offices, compliance departments in public or private corporations, legal aid clinics, banks, search houses, marketing agencies, recruitment agencies, consulting firms, educational institutions, research firms, or in companies that support the legal profession. Many paralegals opt to be self-employed and work for lawyers on a contract basis. Some paralegals choose to become a notary public or a trademark agent, as these related professions are complementary.

Admission Requirements

Prerequisites:*These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
    Applicants are required to have: B.C. high school graduation or equivalent. Non-graduates, aged 23 or older, may be considered on an individual basis; prerequisites for CMNS 125; and one of the following: successful completion at the post-secondary level, and within the past two years, of a Legal Administrative Assistant certificate program that includes a practicum; or two years’ legal administrative experience and current employment in a law firm, and proof of 60 wpm typing speed (attach copy of certificate).

    • International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.5] or Canadian Academic English Language Assessment [min. 70] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 88] or CanTEST [min. 4.5] or Michigan English Language Assessment Battery [min. 85]
