Current Students

To apply for the certificate, students must have successfully completed at least 18 credits in Modern Hebrew language in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics with a minimum grade of B+ in the last upper level course taken.

This certificate is also open to students who already hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and who are admissible according to Faculty and University policies.

Description

The Hebrew language program in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics offers a variety of courses that introduce you to Hebrew language and literature through different periods of their fascinating history - from Biblical Hebrew through Rabbinic and Medieval Hebrew to Modern Hebrew. The Department does not offer a degree program but there is a Certificate of Proficiency in Modern Hebrew Language and courses are offered in Hebrew. The degree program in Jewish Studies, housed in the Department of Humanities, requires courses in Hebrew.

The Certificate of Proficiency in Modern Hebrew Language offered by the Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics accredits candidates who have advanced knowledge of the structures of Modern Hebrew allowing them to communicate in most formal and informal everyday conversations. Students who qualify for the Certificate of Proficiency in Modern Hebrew Language demonstrate oral fluency and can also manage most advanced points of grammar and style in writing and reading the target language.
