DescriptionDo you enjoy working with people and share a love for animals? This program combines office administration and veterinary medicine skills to train you as a valued member of a veterinary team. The Veterinary Medical Receptionist (VMR) provides client care as the “face of the practice” and hands-on animal care to farm and companion animals, both large and small.

This eight-month certificate program begins in September and culminates with a four week industry practicum. Graduates of this program will be able to explain veterinary procedures, protocols, and materials, complete veterinary pharmaceutical procedures as directed by a veterinarian, identify common breeds, behavior and handling of selected species, provide nutritional information and guidance, home care instruction, client education (disease prevention, dental care, obesity management), identify animal systems and components, interact professionally with clients and staff, utilize appropriate software, produce professional documents, provide veterinary customer service and communicate effectively within the animal health industry. VMR students are also responsible for creating promotional items, organizing and booking adoption appointments, and responding to phone inquiries for our “Adopt a Pet” program (find us on Facebook). To understand the importance of the Veterinary Medical Receptionist role we recommend you seek a job shadowing opportunity at your local veterinary clinic.
