Prerequisites NotesA person who has a Secondary V degree or a D.E.P., or has received instruction deemed acceptable by the College and who meets one of the following requirements may be admitted to a program leading to an A.E.C.: - The person's studies have been interrupted for at least two consecutive terms or one school year. - The person is covered by an agreement entered into by the College and an employer or by a government program. - The person has completed at least one year of post-secondary studies spread over a period of one year or more.

Description

Paralegals are non-lawyers providing legal services in specified areas of practice to the public for a fee. The type of work that a licensed paralegal can perform is limited by the Law Society and this program is restricted to those areas of law.

This program, which is accredited by the Law Society of Ontario, prepares graduates to apply to the Law Society of Ontario to become licensed paralegals. Areas of study include Understanding Statutes and By-Laws, Torts and Contracts, Evidence and the Litigation Process, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Small Claims Court, Tribunal Practice, Provincial Offences/Motor Vehicle Offences, Criminal Summary Conviction Procedures and Ethics. Notes: this program is twelve months long, and includes a four week-long internship.
