DescriptionThis 4 year thesis-based program offers an opportunity for independent research at an advanced level in preparation for careers in research, university teaching, and administration. It often builds on research skills gained in the MSc program. Students are normally required to complete a minimum of nine units of course weight as recommended by the Supervisor and the Supervisory Committee, research, write and defend a thesis, 8 hours Academic Integrity and Ethics Training, complete AFNS 601 Seminar requirement (presentation of 2 seminars and 75%+ attendance), and present a thesis seminar as part of the final oral examination. Students must maintain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.7 to continue in the program and normally register full-time for the duration of their graduate program at the University of Alberta. Funding may be available from the supervising faculty member.
