DescriptionThe German Program at the University of Manitoba is small but growing program; the student numbers in the last years have more than doubled. The program offers undergraduate and graduate (M.A.) classes, at all levels of the German language and in German literature and culture between 1750 and today. All staff members teach German language classes. The department’s specialty is German literature between 1933 and today, but the periods Enlightenment and Romanticism are also well represented.

Students can participate in two official student exchanges with Universities in Germany: Greifswald and Trier. The length of the exchange with Greifswald is one or two semesters; the length of the exchange with Trier may vary from one term to one academic year. Further options for students to go to Germany include an annual summer work program in Germany, several summer school programs in German language, literature, and culture, and a year as Foreign Language Assistant in English at a German school.
