Applicants are required to have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent with minimum six 4U or 4M credits including English (ENG4U with a minimum grade of 60 per cent); Biology (SBI4U); Chemistry (SCH4U); and one of: Advanced Functions (MHF4U) (preferred); Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U) (preferred); or Data Management (MDM4U), with a recommended minimum of 65 per cent. Admission preference will be given to students presenting advanced functions or calculus and vectors.

Applicants will also be assessed on professional practice skills with the completion of a Computer-Based Assessment for Sampling Personal Characteristics (CASPer). CASPer is an online screening tool designed to evaluate key personal and professional characteristics for successful students and graduates. Possession of the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance. Preference will be given to applicants with the best qualifications.

Students interested in this collaborative BScN program should also review the College of Nurses of Ontario website (www.cno.org) to ensure an understanding and ability to meet the Standards of Practice (2002) upon graduation.

DescriptionThe collaborative nursing programs are a fully integrated partnership between the Durham College School of Health & Community Services and the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) Faculty of Health Sciences, Nursing. This program will prepare students to meet the health-care needs of individuals, families, groups, communities and populations. Students are prepared to create and disseminate knowledge about nursing practice and the human experience of health, illness and healing. Graduates are prepared to write the NCLEX-RN examination to become a registered nurse.
