Description | Computer science combines the intellectual challenge of a young discipline with the excitement of an innovative and rapidly expanding technology. It has been an active area at Lakehead for over 25 years. The Department resides in the University's Advanced Technology and Academic Centre (ATAC), a striking building housing many of the University's computing activities. Faculty, staff, and students are provided state-of-the-art computing facilities including smart lecture rooms, labs, and a variety of computing technologies (e.g. Virtual Reality, Parallel Computing).
The Master's program in Computer Science provides an opportunity to explore the breadth and depth of advanced knowledge in computer science. Our program includes both a selection of advanced courses and individual student research. The balance between courses and research can follow one of two options: Master's by Thesis, which requires fewer courses and has a more substantial research project, and Master's by Course, which includes more courses balanced with a limited research component. Moreover, our program has a Co-op placement opportunity for more industrial experience. Co-op employment for a minimum of eight months (two terms) must be successfully completed to satisfy co-op requirements for the degree; however, students may be employed on co-op for up to a maximum of 16 months (four terms) as part of the program. | | |
