Prerequisites Notes | This program does not allow admission directly from high school. Preprofessional Study Time: 1 year. All students in the Qualifying Year in the Faculty of Engineering follow a common curriculum in their first year. At the end of the first year, students choose among the various specialized Engineering programs offered and between the traditional and cooperative education streams.

Description | This program gives you the opportunity to focus on the emerging field of nanotechnology, giving you an introduction to the processes involved in the fabrication of nanoscale integrated circuits and in designing the tools necessary for the mass production of nanoscale systems.
The University of Alberta is a leader in nanotechnology and nano-scale engineering. We are home to the NanoFAB Micromachining and Nanofabrication Facility, the Integrated Nanosystems Research Facility, and the Nanotechnology Research Centre, the latter two being part of the campus-based National Institute for Nanotechnology (NINT). This Option is taken as part of a Computer Engineering degree.
