The Department also recognizes its commitment to the Icelandic community in North America by actively promoting North American-Icelandic history and culture. It has served to highlight the cultural contribution of Icelandic-Canadians to North America, and the curriculum includes courses dealing exclusively with Icelandic-Canadian literature and the poetics of immigration.
