| Description | Offering two streams of entry to Social Work at York, the direct entry option is for you if you have graduated from high school and want to pursue a career in social work. Eligible community college students can join us at the second-year level. The Social Work program prepares you to support individuals, families and communities while addressing social inequalities. You’ll learn how social systems, policies and power structures shape people’s experiences, and develop practical skills in communication, advocacy and critical thinking. Learn about racial and colonial histories of social work while expanding your contemporary understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion. You’ll develop your knowledge of Indigenous social work, social welfare and human services and gain hands-on experience through a required placement, working with organizations in real-world settings.
