Areas of Expertise

Over the past 37 years, Lambton College has earned an international reputation as a highly specialized institution, responsive to industry needs. Small class sizes and the opportunity for tailored programs combined with state-of-the-art facilities are the basis for an enviable track record of success.

This year, we opened the doors to an innovative Centre of Excellence for Process Manufacturing, which will provide up-to-date skills to meet rapidly changing demands in the industry. This and our SuperBuild expansion provide the college with 16,000-square-feet of new and renovated space to house state-of-the-art computer labs, e-learning facilities, massage therapy, and hospitality and tourism management labs. As well, Lambton College houses the only Industrial Fire School in Canada.

Lambton College Residence is home to over 280 students and is a great place to meet friends, socialize, relax, study and grow.

Located on the North East edge of our main campus, you’re only a short walk to classes, retail outlets, recreational facilities, restaurants, a movie theatre, and a wide variety of on campus student services.

An Orientation day is offered annually for all first-year students.

Career Planning

The Co-op and Career Services Department is staffed year-round with full-time and part-time individuals. We develop contacts with potential employers and acquaint them with Lambton College promoting our co-op students' and graduates' practical skills, and organize the interview process for students and employers. We also try to assist students seeking part-time and summer employment. Students are encouraged to come to us for help with their resumes, application forms, interviewing concerns about job possibilities, and career advice.

Sports

At Lambton College, athletics are meant for everyone. The Athletics Department offers students the opportunity to participate in recreational, intramural, and varsity athletics. Students are welcome to use all of the facilities when the facilities are not in use for regularly scheduled classes. Outdoor facilities include a softball diamond and a football/soccer field. The indoor facilities consist of a gymnasium with a weight training room, a sports injury lab, and a cardio room.

Our varsity teams, the Lambton Lions, compete in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association and the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association. Varsity teams include men's basketball, cross country running, men's and women's soccer, and women's volleyball.

Clubs

Lambton College Students Administrative Council (SAC), Women in Trades and Technology (WITT), Instrument Society of America Club, Child and Youth Workers Association, Ski Club, ECE Advocacy Group, Mechanical Club, and a number of other student organizations.

Information Technology

The Information and Educational Technology Department provides consultation and computing services for student and administrative activities.

The College provides access to a wide variety of general purpose, programming, CAD, and other specialized computing laboratories. Students at Lambton College are supported with high quality and accessible computing resources and services. There is a rich mix of operating system environments to learn in, including Unix, OS/400, Windows NT, 98, 2000, and XP. Some labs are used in structured class settings, while others are available in an open-access format for academic research and assignment completion. All labs are open from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. In addition, designated computer labs are available to students 24 hours a day, with the exception of holidays. To provide for the protection of computer lab users and resources, students may be asked to show valid College I.D. Students have access to approximately 450 computers in 22 labs at Lambton College.

Internet access is available from all networked workstations, in open-access labs, classroom labs, and multimedia classrooms on campus. Full-time students at Lambton receive personal e-mail accounts and have access to a wide range of computer hardware, software, and printing resources. Students living in residence may bring personal computers to the College and connect them to the college network to receive e-mail and web services. Student Help Desk and Lab Monitor services are available to assist students with using the labs.

The current technology infrastructure includes HP Alpha, HP VAX, IBM iSeries (AS/400), Novell NetWare, and Microsoft Windows servers. All computers are networked to a fibre optic Ethernet backbone that is connected to the Internet.

Cultural

The First Nations Students' Centre, which is part of our Student Success Team, is staffed by an Aboriginal Counsellor and Support Staff person. Staff are there to assist current and potential students in any way they can throughout their post-secondary studies. One aspect of their cultural awareness initiative is hosting an Annual Mini Pow Wow during the first week in April.

Special Services

Services for students with disabilities include peer tutoring, sign language interpretation, Braille transcription, and FM system.

International Involvement

The College has been involved in development projects and exchanges with Indonesia, China, Mexico, Oman, and Malaysia. We have developed twinning agreements with institutions in the USA, Japan, Nicaragua, Mexico, China, Australia, France, and Brazil. The Canadian-Nicaragua Educational Centre for Training is located on-campus.

The College features English as a Second Language (ESL) and has hosted students from Brazil, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, Hong Kong, China, Libya, Italy, and France. There also have been several students in our post-secondary programs from Japan, United Arab Emirates, China, Hong Kong, Philippines, Trinidad, Abu Dhabi, India, and Ethiopia.

Other

Other available services include counselling, career consulting, housing, the Atkins Family Wellness Centre, Learning Bridge, Early Childhood Education Day Care Centre, and the Early Years Centre. The Lambton Mall and the Lambton 9 Cinemas are located very close to our campus.

Our students find faculty and staff to be friendly and accommodating. Lambton College offers many services designed to make college life a pleasure. The Student Centre, Counselling Department, Financial Aid, laboratories, shops, studios, green houses, the Resource Centre, and state-of-the-art computer labs are available to meet the needs of our students. Our Athletic Department and Student Activities Council (SAC) organize an abundance of athletic and social activities. Situated on the St. Clair River and Lake Huron, Sarnia offers beautiful beaches and parks for your enjoyment. Our Sarnia/Lambton businesses and organizations offer many co-op opportunities for our students and also hold a seat on our Program Advisory Committees.

Lambton College also offers many work/study opportunities designed to give you career experience. Our graduates and their employers are impressed with the high calibre of education our students receive.
