The following comments cover the career grouping of Managers in Communication (Except Broadcasting), which includes Telecommunication Carriers Managers.
The annual difference between supply and demand is low, representing only -1.3% of employment in 2008. Job openings will arise from retirements, as well as from new positions created by economic growth. Although the retirement rate in this occupation is below the occupational average, nearly half of all job openings will result from retirements. The other half will therefore result primarily from expansion demand. These job openings will be greater in number than over the 1999-2008 period. During that period, the telecommunications sector, where the majority of positions in this occupation are found, experienced a number of difficulties and technological changes. Given that many years of experience are required to obtain a senior management position, it is not surprising that a large number of job seekers will come from other occupations. Nevertheless, a sizeable number of job seekers over the 2011-2020 period will be new graduates.
