Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanics

(NOC 7313)

These comments cover the career grouping of Machinery and Transportation Equipment Mechanics (Except Motor Vehicle) which includes Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanics.

Employment opportunities will arise primarily from positions left vacant by refrigeration and air conditioning mechanics who retire and, to a lesser degree, from employment increase. Other opportunities will also result from positions left vacant by mechanics promoted to contractor and foreman/woman, refrigeration and air conditioning mechanic positions (NOC 7216) or, for those with the required skills, construction manager positions (NOC 0711).

The number of job openings resulting from economic growth will be fewer than during the 1999-2008 period. Because of the recession, which deeply affected the United States economy, Canada's largest trade partner, growth in the transportation industry will not be as strong over the 2011-2020 period. Moreover, the difficulties experienced in the manufacturing sector are expected to continue, which will lead to a decrease in demand for shipping and machinery repair.
