Description:The Applied Counselling Skills Certificate program is designed to develop proficiency in basic counselling skills as well as knowledge to aid others in their search for personal growth and healthy relationships.

This program will enable you to develop basic counselling skills in areas that include general counselling, cross-cultural communication, and family and youth issues. The program will train you as a para-professional, skilled helper and/or support worker in a counselling related field.

Admission Requirements

Prerequisites:*These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
    - A complete Manitoba Grade 12 or equivalent


    - All applicants must provide the Centre of Continuing Studies (room 141, Victoria Avenue East Campus) with an application package containing: Resume, and two personal letters of reference. Current criminal records check. Current child abuse registry check. Application essay One-page handwritten essay will include: why you would like to take the Applied Counselling Skills program, what population/cliental you would be interested in working with, where you see yourself five years from now.


    - To ensure success in the program, it is also required that applicants have prior experience (minimum of 70 hours) in a helping field, for example caring for children, the ederly, direct care for adults, etc. For more information on volunteer sites, please contact the Centre of Continuing Studies.
