Description:Confederation College’s Practical Nursing program is a two-year program with an emphasis on providing nursing care to stable, predictable patients across their lifespan.




Courses in the Practical Nursing program cover a wide variety of topics including foundational theory courses, nursing skills/procedures, pharmacology, pathophysiology (disease processes), nursing assessment, and clinical practice. Students will develop the nursing skills needed to help people at various stages of life (infant to older adult) and experience a wide range of exciting clinical practice experiences! Students who graduate from a Ministry approved Personal Support Worker Program may also have advanced credits in the Practical Nursing Program. Students who graduate from the Practical Nursing Program often set their sights on a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree after completing the Practical Nursing Program. So many choices, options, and ideas!

Admission Requirements

Prerequisites:*These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.

  •  Grade11 Mathematics 
  •   Chemistry 
  •   Biology 
Applicants are required to have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (or equivalent) with courses from the College (C), University (U), University/College (U/C), or Open (O) preparation levels with Grade 12 English (C/U) Level; or successful completion of the Mature Student Assessment; or successful completion of the General Education Development Test (GED); or appropriate credits from the Academic and Career Entrance program (ACE). Applicants are also required to have Grade 11 Mathematics (College or University Preparation) and Grade 11 or 12 Biology (College or University Preparation) and Grade 11 or 12 Chemistry (College or University Preparation). If you find you do not possess the necessary admission requirements (or equivalency), we encourage you to consider our Pre-Health Sciences program which will provide you with the necessary preparation to apply to this program. Completion of the Pre-Health Sciences program does not guarantee admission to the Practical Nursing program in a subsequent year.
