Description:As a student in the ECE program, you’ll learn about the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional needs of children. You’ll also learn the skills and knowledge necessary for planning and carrying out programming which optimizes individual development of young children.

Your studies will blend theory about childhood development with a hands-on application of those principles. You’ll explore child development theory and apply it to programming for infant, toddler, preschool and school-aged children. As part of the program, you’ll also study developmental theory and practice for children with special needs, as well as an overview of relevant communications theory and philosophy.

Admission Requirements

Prerequisites:*These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
  •  Grade12 English 
Prior To Beginning Of Class:

- Current immunization report and report of chest x–ray or tuberculin skin test.
- A valid Standard First Aid Certificate (16 hours).
- A valid CPR "C" Certificate.
- Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Check.
- Applicants living in the city of Toronto can expect to wait a minimum of 8-12 weeks to receive a Police Check.
Test Scores:
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Paper Based) [min. 550] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 80] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.0]
Additional Admission Requirements:
    Although not required for admission, work experience in a related setting is recommended for your success in the program.
