Description:The three-year Child and Youth Care advanced diploma program is designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge required to work with children, adolescents and families experiencing a wide range of emotional, social, behavioural and/or mental health needs. Child and Youth Workers are specialists in facilitating change in children and youth and work alongside other professionals including educators, medical and social work professionals, correctional officers and family organizations dedicated to implementing a range of intervention, prevention and treatment strategies for children and their families. As a Child and Youth Worker, you will be a valuable resource committed to understanding and interacting in therapeutic relationships that foster positive change.

Admission Requirements

Prerequisites:*These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
  •  Grade12 English 
- To be in compliance with our student placement partners, all students in this program must complete a vulnerable sector police screening by the end of first year.
- A Ministry approved certificate in the following crisis intervention and prevention prior to graduation is recommended for your success in the program:
- Crisis Prevention & Intervention (CPI)
- Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI)
- Understanding & Managing Aggressive Behavior (UMAB).
Test Scores:
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Paper Based) [min. 550] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 80] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.0]
