The Bachelor of Early Childhood Care & Education (ECCE) offers students a range of academic and education courses that blend theory and practice in the early years, engaging with research and theory.

Three core threads are intertwined throughout the degree: Curriculum, Childhoods, and Leadership and Advocacy. Students are invited to engage in critically reflective practice, working to create classrooms of social justice and equity for children and families.

Courses in the first two years meet the requirements of the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) for:

ECE Certificate to Practice;
Infant/Toddler Certificate to Practice; and/or
Special Needs Certificate to Practice.

This early childhood education degree is a pathway to elementary teacher education programs at both Simon Fraser University and the University of British Columbia.

Prerequisites:*	These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school. Applicants are required to have high school graduation. Applicants are also required to have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 (60%) calculated on English Studies 12, English 12 or English 12 First Peoples and three Academic Grade 12 courses. Admissions preference may be given to students with Literary Studies 12 as one of the three academic Grade 12 courses.
Application Notes :	English is the language of instruction at CapU. All applicants are required to demonstrate competence in the English language prior to admission. If English is not your first language or you've received your education in a language other than English, you must meet our English Language Requirements.
Additional Admission Requirements:	Current Grade 12 students can be conditionally accepted based on final Grade 11 grades or interim Grade 12 grades. Students can upload proof of grades (e.g. unofficial transcripts, copies of report cards) through EducationPlannerBC when applying to Capilano University. Final acceptance will be based on high school graduation and having met the program specific requirements. Note: All B.C. applicants must release their grades to CapU via the BC Ministry of Education at Student Transcripts Services (STS). Please do this as soon as possible.
