Description:The importance of the early years in a child's development is well established. There is a critical need for a variety of programs for children and families and for trained staff to ensure children's developmental needs are being met. The Early Learning and Child Care Program trains professionals to work with children from birth to eight years, with some related preparation for working with children from eight to twelve years of age. Throughout the program, there is an emphasis on developing caring relationships with children and families.

Admission Requirements

Prerequisites:*These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
  •  Grade12 English 
A minimum of 50% in ELA 30-1 or 65% in ELA 30-2, or equivalent.
Test Scores:
  • International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.5] or Canadian Academic English Language Assessment [min. 60] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 83] or Pearson Test of English (Academic) [min. 59]
Additional Admission Requirements:
    Applicants are required to have an Early Childhood Development Certificate with a minimum G.P.A. of 1.7, or consent of the Chair. Transferring students from another post-secondary institution will be required to present an equivalent academic program.
