While the roots of Nipissing University extend back to the 1900s with the North Bay Normal School, Nipissing University College was formed in 1967 as an affiliate of Laurentian University. Nipissing University received its charter as an independent university in 1992. Students will find themselves in a high quality academic environment that is student focused and based on personal teaching practices, innovative approaches to learning, and a growing research culture. Nipissing is committed to playing a positive role in the educational, social, cultural, and economic life of North Bay and Northeastern Ontario.

Nipissing University and the Schulich School of Education are leaders in the field of education. We offer graduates of university programs the opportunities to pursue their Bachelor of Education degree if they wish to be a classroom teacher, a Masters of Education and a Doctorate in Education. In addition to a rich history in education, Nipissing offers future and recent university graduates a number of options to continue their education including Nursing, Social Work, or Masters degrees in: Environmental Sciences/Studies, History, Sociology, Math, and Kinesiology.

We create a floor and community for Consecutive Education students in our Chancellor's residence complex. Residence is not available to students pursuing Graduate level degrees.

Nipissing offers excellent athletic facilities to all of our students including weight room, cardio facility, gymnasiums, studio space, brand new turf field, and squash courts. Students have the option of using facilities at their leisure or joining organized sport through intramurals or varsity athletics.

Enji giigdoyang - The Office of Indigenous Initiatives provides a space, support and resources for Indigenous learners at the university. There is also a Multi-Faith space available to all students on campus for meditation, reflection, prayer, and other religious practices.

Nipissing University shares a campus and numerous partner programs with Canadore College.
