At MRU, some 14,000 undergraduate students pursue a variety of bachelor's degree, diploma and certificate programs. While the programs may have changed over more than 100 years, Mount Royal continues to focus on quality teaching and an exemplary undergraduate experience.


Mount Royal delivers 12 bachelor's degrees with 33 majors (including new business and science degrees) to help you explore your specific area of interest combined with the help of unparalleled faculty, campus life and student support. At Mount Royal, professors know a student's name and engage with students through hands-on learning and with research opportunities. Mount Royal students are prepared for the workforce or to further their studies at professional or graduate school. MRU provides practical learning with a particular focus on work placements, practicums and co-op education.


Outside the classroom, Mount Royal offers the support students need to succeed. Student Learning Services helps develop superior learning skills, through mentors, a peer tutor program, writing and learning support workshops and tools for studying effectively. As students get further into their degree, Career Services assists in turning scholastic success into a job.

Areas of Expertise

Mount Royal's instructionally based programs are current, relevant and evolving. Mount Royal offers a highly sought after Bachelor of Nursing degree as well as degree programs in areas not common at most institutions such as Midwifery, Interior Design, Criminal Justice, Communication Studies in four majors (Broadcast Media Studies, Information Design, Journalism and Public Relations) and Child Studies to name just a few.

MRU has two residence complexes designed for independent student living. Combined, they accommodate about 1,000 students with an option for single gender or gender inclusive housing.

Our residences are available in either apartment or townhouses units — no cramped dorms here! All residents have private, lockable bedrooms and share living rooms and kitchens with their unit mates. There are wired and wireless internet connections and one cable hookup per unit (in the living room).

Incoming Students

Mount Royal provides a comprehensive range of services to serve the needs of students including academic advising, personal, educational, and career counselling, as well as health services. Student Learning Services provides workshops and individualized instruction on studying and writing, subject based peer tutoring, and disabilities related services. The International Student Support Centre welcomes students from around the world. Excellent facilities such as modern and wired student residences, state of the art recreational facilities and a library, bookstore, daycare, and two food courts are also available.

Career Planning

Career planning programs and services at MRU help students prepare for their work placements and future careers. Programs and services are in place to help students with self-assessments, choosing a major, exploring the connection between their education and career choices, job search, resume critiquing, job preparation, and work experience. Recruitment and networking events are held to help students meet employers and gain experience in the world of work. Career Services provides opportunities for students to achieve their career and employment goals.

Sports

Mount Royal Cougar Athletic teams compete in the Canada West Division of USports against the top universities in Canada. Team sports for both men and women include hockey, basketball, soccer and volleyball. The Crowchild Classic, a series of games against city rival University of Calgary each January, is a campus highlight with the men's and women's hockey games played at the Saddledome, home of the Calgary Flames.

Activities

Mount Royal recreation organizes a variety of intramural sports, fitness programs and special events. Facilities include running tracks, soccer fields, pool, squash courts, dance studios, fitness centre and climbing wall. The Rocky Mountains, just an hour from campus, offer some of the hottest tourist destinations for outdoor adventure, like hiking and skiing.

Clubs

Clubs are a great way to meet new people! Clubs can be academic, social, representational, or cultural. SAMRU's clubs meet throughout the year to plan social events, fundraisers, graduation celebrations and more. By starting or joining a club, students can explore their interests while developing valuable friendships and leadership skills.

Information Technology

Students can access computer workstations on every floor of the Riddell Library and Learning Centre during scheduled open hours. A mixture of quick access and account login workstations are available to meet various user needs. The computer commons area on the first floor of the Library provides access to workstations in an open space full of natural light where students can engage with their fellow classmates.

Cultural

The Taylor Centre for the Performing Arts brings you the best the arts has to offer, from global icons to local arts groups. Located in the Taylor Centre, the beautiful Bella Concert Hall and its wonderful acoustics offers concerts and performances throughout the year. Mount Royal is also home to the annual Calgary Performing Arts Festival. The international Student Support Centre also hosts regular cultural events for domestic and international students to enjoy.

Special Services

Student parents can take advantage of the Child Care Centre, which provides care for children ages 19 months to five years including a preschool. The Indigenous University Bridging Program through the Iniskim Centre provides a unique post-secondary preparation and support program for Indigenous students designed to meet their cultural and educational needs.

International Involvement

Through the development and delivery of programs related to student mobility and faculty exchanges, and through the provision of specialized student support dedicated to international students, MRU's focus is to ensure Mount Royal students can have the opportunity to enrich their education and expand their understanding of the world.
