Description:The successful chef or food and beverage entrepreneur of today requires more than just great culinary skills to excel in the hospitality industry. Chefs, food and beverage managers and restaurant owners today need business, leadership and human resource skills in addition to a strong culinary foundation. This program provides fundamental management skills for students with culinary backgrounds looking to manage, own or operate a food and beverage business.

The Culinary Management diploma is developed for today’s contemporary chef looking to further his or her management and/or entrepreneur skills. The diploma is designed as a one-year addition for students who have taken the Professional Cook level 1&2 program or anyone with Red Seal Journeyman Chef accreditation. Gain the skills to manage, own or operate a food and beverage business.

Admission Requirements

Prerequisites:*These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
  •  Grade12 English 
Admission to the program requires the completion of BC Professional Cook II or equivalent; the completion of Grade 12 or equivalent; and English 12 or equivalent with a "C" or better. Please visit the website for complete program requirements.
Test Scores:
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Computer Based) [min. 213] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.0] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 79-80]
Application Notes : If your first language is not English, you must meet the following English Language Proficiency requirements for entry in to Selkirk College University Transfer, Diploma or Degree programs: completion of BC English 12, or equivalent; or completion, with a grade of "C+" or better, advanced core courses in the Selkirk College English Language Program and Provincial Level English 51; or submission of a TOEFL score of 213 (computer) or ibt 79-80 or better; or submission of an IELTS score of 6.0 or better; or submission of an EIKEN Grade Pre -1; or submission of an acceptable score on the Language Proficiency Index score of 4 or better. For Indian students coming through the SPP program, the IELTS requirement for diploma programs is 6.0 with no band less than 5.5.
