Career Description

Butchers and meat cutters cut, trim, and prepare standard cuts of meat, poultry, fish, and shellfish for sale at self-serve counters or according to customers' orders.

Duties May Include

Butchers and meat cutters perform some or all of the following duties:

Grind or slice meats using powered machines;

Prepare special displays of meat, poultry, fish or shellfish;

Shape, lace, and tie roasts/other meats;

Determine quantity/type of meat cuts to prepare and maintain inventories/records;

Supervise other butchers or meat cutters.
