 Psychology: One Program, Many Options

Psychology is a popular program to study in university. In fact, you’ll probably find undergraduate psychology programs at most universities in Canada. So, when it comes to choosing a psychology program, how do you know what one is right for you? Here are some things to consider.

A BA or a BSc degree

When considering psychology, think about whether you’d like to complete a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree. In a BA Psychology program, your studies will likely focus more on social and cultural contexts, human behaviours and experiences, and the ways people think, feel, and behave. In a BSc Psychology program, you will still study human behaviour, but also take courses in natural and life science and focus on the biological aspects of psychology.

Whether you choose a BA or BSc in Psychology, your education will be insightful and rewarding and help you meet your future goals.

Combine with another major

You may also have the choice to study in another major alongside psychology (like a double major) or expand your education in other ways. This can be a great way to combine your learning in psychology with another topic that interests you, especially if you have a specific career goal in mind.

When you study Psychology at Laurier, you could add a Teaching Option, combine the program with courses in Criminology, add a minor in Physical Forensics, and more.

Career options

A psychology degree can lead you to so many different and rewarding careers. Some careers may require additional training or education, depending on your goals, but you’ll be well on your way to achieving those goals. Sample career options include:

  • Clinical psychologist
  • Psychometrist
  • Speech-language pathologist
  • Social policy researcher
  • Forensic psychologist

And Laurier offers you a pathway to medical school with the American University of the Caribbean (AUC) School of Medicine. When you complete your psychology degree, and if you meet all academic requirements, you’re automatically granted an admissions interview with the AUC School of Medicine.
