Discover what your future could look like at York University!
Are you thinking of joining York University's inclusive, diverse campus community next year? As you get ready for the next chapter of your life, you can find opportunities and supports to reimagine your future here at York. Whether you're starting university for the first time, pursuing a second degree, or returning to your studies after some time off, York offers many different pathways for you to find the perfect fit. Here are three reasons why York is a great choice for you.
1. Academic Excellence and Flexibility
At York U, you can choose a unique degree path from over 200 programs. Dedicated to innovation and experiential learning, York U students learn from established professors across all disciplines at their 25 Research Centres and Institutes. During the COVID-19 Pandemic, York has implemented several online learning options.
The University has a full selection of academic programming for the current Fall Term, with more than 95% of the 3,500 undergraduate courses being taught through on-line and remote delivery. Careful planning has facilitated our ability to offer experiential in-person learning in a select number of courses, including labs, studios, and clinical placements.
Our students can choose from many flexible learning options, including pursuing a double major in different areas of interest across different Faculties. This means that students can design their own academic schedule, so that their degree is personalized to their career interests.
2. A Career-Focused Education
At York, our students' learning experiences include paid internships, co-ops, international exchanges, community and workplace-focused experiential leaning, eLearning and more. Whatever path may have brought you here, you can find the learning experience that you are looking for here. You will benefit from hands-on, experiential learning opportunities that will help you build a professional network and develop the practical skills needed to excel in the workplace whether you choose to stay in Canada or launch a global career.
York's Career Centre helps you achieve your career goals by coordinating job postings for all York students as well as career fairs, peer career educator sittings, employer recruitment sessions, workshops such as "Job Search and Networking Strategies" and "Résumé & Cover Letter Writing" as well as several networking programs and opportunities. While these events normally take place in-person, during COVID-19, these events have moved online.
You can also work while you study! It's easy to get involved in one of the 1,900 student jobs available on campus at York University every year! Students can take advantage of York's Work/Study program in part-time administrative roles; Research at York (RAY) positions to join faculty research projects; the Leadership, Engagement & Ambassadorship Program (LEAP) to work as an ambassador on campus, or York's Internship program.
3. Exciting Student Life in Canada's Biggest City
With two campuses located in central Toronto and two subway stops located on our Keele Campus, Canada's largest city is truly at your fingertips. Both campuses are accessible by bike, car, carpooling programs as well as multiple public transportation providers around the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA).
Our Keele Campus is a self-contained community with walking paths, a pond, woodlots and 90 buildings including academic and athletic facilities, residences, students service location, a mall and over 40 restaurants and shops!
The Glendon Campus is a serene getaway in midtown Toronto. Known for its beautiful rose gardens, our bilingual campus is the Centre of Excellence for French-language & Bilingual Postsecondary Education in Southern Ontario.
While we understand that university can be a big place, York U is one of the only universities in Canada that has the college system! This system makes a big University like York feel small and tight-knit. All undergraduates are assigned to a college as their "home base" to study, hang out and feel part of a close-knit group within the York community.
York's 300+ official student clubs provide new students with the perfect chance to meet new friends and enjoy an extracurricular activity that suits their interests. You can also track your campus involvement on your York Co-Curricular Record, which is a great addition to any resume!
