Develop Your Cyber Security Skills at Sheridan

The internet dominates daily life for many Canadians — where would you be without your phone, and how do you feel when you can't get a signal? You've probably experienced that sense of frustration when your tech just isn't working right. Now imagine losing access to the internet entirely — or having your credit card spoofed by a hacker half a world away.

These are just a few reasons why cyber security is so important in the 21st century. Sheridan's here to help, with a new, one-of-a-kind two-year diploma in cyber security. You don't need to be a math wiz to gain admission: if you're curious about technology, eager to learn, and want to develop marketable skills for our digital future, you're a good candidate for this program.

You can take the program online or in-person — and even fast-track your progress to graduate in just 16 months!

(And for international students, the program is PGWP-aligned, meaning you can apply to stay and work in Canada after graduation.)

Sheridan's cyber security diploma prepares you for entry-level positions in cyber security and tech. Job prospects across the country look good! Here are just a few of the job titles you could pursue as a cyber security graduate:

  • Cyber security technician
  • Incident responder
  • Internet security analyst
  • Vulnerability assessment analyst
  • Encryption Key Management Support Specialist

Earnings for cyber security professionals tend to be high, especially as you gain experience, including benefits, pension plans, and more.

Cyber security courses at Sheridan

As part of Sheridan's two-year cyber security diploma, you'll take courses in subjects like Python programming, operating systems technologies, and ethical issues in the cyber security field. You'll also learn about PowerShell scripting, incident management and security operations, and threat intelligence.

By the time you graduate, you'll be well-equipped to assist small and large institutions with their cyber security needs.

Operate & maintain, protect & defend

The program is built to develop two of the four skillsets defined within the Canadian cyber security skills framework: operate & maintain, and protect & defend.

  • Operate & maintain: Technical roles ensuring secure operations of digital systems and data management
  • Protect & defend: Technical roles in cyber security operations, including digital forensics

As you learn about the industry, you may decide to go on to further education and/or industry certifications, and explore the other two major skillsets: oversee & govern, and design & develop, which may include leadership and non-technical roles as well.

How to get admitted to the cyber security program

Sheridan's cyber security diploma is open to Canadian and international students. To be eligible to apply, you'll need a completed high school diploma, with an English course at the grade 12 level. Mature students are also eligible. If English is not your first language, you'll also need to meet Sheridan's language proficiency requirements.

Applicants should have prior experience with computers, and be open to innovative solutions for problem solving. As a cyber security professional, you'll be at the forefront of technological change, so you should be prepared to expand your thinking as technologies evolve.
